Super Bowl Afterthoughts

No need to hide my bias here: I wanted the Pats to get beat. I’m sorry. Boston has been blessed with championship after championship since 2001, so I don’t want to hear any crying after the Pats got beat. Yet, after watching how the Giants have acted over the last 2 days, I kinda wish they could have lost too. Regardless, I learned 4 things from this Super Bowl, and here they are:

1. It is IMPOSSIBLE in today’s NFL to go Undefeated

With the level of talent that plays in the NFL today and a 16 game schedule, it is impossible not to have a game where things just don’t go right for you. And when things don’t go right for you in the NFL, you usually get beat.

2. The Giants are a good team, but not the best team

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone outside of New York that actually believes that the Giants were the BEST team in football this year. If you had to make a top 5 of the best teams in the NFL this year, the Giants may not even be on THAT list. All signs point to the Giants being a good team that ended the season on a great roll.

3. The “Manning to Tyree” play is the best play I’ve ever seen

Granted I’ve only been alive for some 20 odd years. Still, look at this play start to finish. Eli, a QB whom I always assumed was Bledsoe-light, breaks 3 arms tackles and hurls up a prayer, which is answered by a crazy hand/helmet catch that came inches aways from the ground. Best play I’ve ever seen.

4. The NFL trumps all other sports when it comes to Championship games

Maybe this one is too easy, but watching Super Bowl 42 really drives the point home, eh? After watching the Cavs and Rockies get swept in their respective sports championship game, it is refreshing to know that ONE major sport in America can actually deliver the goods when it comes to the big game.
