Clemens Steroid Update!

Apparently, Brian McNamee is a big collector of Roger Clemens “memorabilia”. More after the jump.
Brian McNamee is a big fan of Roger Clemens. Just look at his collection! In one room he has signed jerseys, bats, baseballs, and even gloves. In the other room he has blood stained vials, gauze, and syringes… wait what? The latter of McNamee’s collection has now been turned over as “evidence” in the Roger Clemens steroid case. But isn’t there a problem with this evidence collected back in 2000 and 2001? Clemens has already stated that he was injected with things other than steroids, so how hard would it have been for McNamee to put a little of Clemens blood with an empty HGH vial that had already been used by someone else. That point will surely be brought up by Clemens lawyers as this whole circus continues on. But lets look at this from a logical perspective: Who keeps blood stained vials, gauze, and syringes for 5 plus years? McNamee claims that he kept these things in case Roger Clemens would one day deny allegations of steroid use. This seems reasonable until you think about the situation another way: If McNamee was so worried about Clemens denying steroid use, why didn’t he come forward with evidence when Clemens was first named by the Grimsley drug case? And if McNamee is worried about Clemens denying use, why wouldn’t he have been worried about other players who he injected? Why is Clemens the only player that has his own special “collection” in the McNamee house hold?

This whole situation is a giant circus for the media, and has little to no impact on how any of these players will be remembered in history. If Roger Clemens is ever PROVEN to have done steroids in 2000, he is still a Hall of Fame pitcher for what he accomplished before 2000. The problem with this whole situation is that you can prove the IF, but you can’t be certain on WHEN. Unless there is video or photographic evidence of the event, it is just a giant “he said she said” fight where public opinion takes hold as the truth. This topic will be debated for many years to come, but I will try to avoid any more speculation regarding this subject.
