College Hoops Rundown 2/19/08
I think this is the first Tuesday in a while where there has been no new controversy to get on here and scream about… I guess that means that I’m reduce to talking about sports (novel concept right?). Here is a run down of what happened in College Hoops last night:
#22 Texas A&M – 50 #7 Texas – 77
BEAT DOWN. Texas gets some sweet revenge and DJ Augustine broke out of his shooting slump by scoring 27 points. Does anyone else in America has 3 better wins than Texas (Kansas, UCLA, Tennessee)?
#11 Georgetown – 68 Providence – 58
Georgetown looked like it might have been on a path to get upset twice in the last week, but turned the ship around in the second half to pull out a win.
#12 Xavier – 81 Rhode Island – 77
Xavier plays another A-10 team close on the road! Shocker! Granted that Rhode Island is a pretty good team, so I guess I’ll save my “Xavier plays terrible on the road” speech for another time. Xavier’s Josh Duncan has been playing out of his mind the last 2 games. He hasn’t missed a shot and has averaged 24 points a game. I’ve been on this guys case since the beginning of last year because he is usually the most talented guy on the court, but he plays like a girl under the rim. If he can change that around, maybe Xavier will stick around for the long run.
#20 Saint Mary’s – 100 Pepperdine – 64
I usually root for Pepperdine just because I think their name sounds cool, but the opponent hitting 17 threes is enough to make me think that Saint Mary’s sounds cooler. Another classic WCC game in the books.
Syracuse – 50 #23 Louisville – 61
Syracuse is just a confusing team to figure out. I’m not sure if it’s because they are so young, or if they are just flat out inconsistent and nothing can be done to fix it. Louisville on the other hand has been a scary team ever since David Padgett came back. While Padgett only had 1 point last night, he help the team with 10 rebounds and 5 assists. His passing ability in the post is something teams dream about at night.
