NBA Double Dribble 2/20/08

The Dribble returns to a slate of good basketball games! Lets get started:
Boston (41-10) – 118                       Denver (33-20) – 124

KG’s big return resulted in 4 points, but the rest of the Celtics picked up the slack to keep this game close. Marcus Camby was a real difference maker with 11 points, 13 rebs, and 9 block. Camby is getting ready for another defensive player of the year award. I know that I ripped on the Nuggets a week ago about being inconsistent, but what I forgot to say is that when they’re on… they’re really good.

Houston (33-20) – 93                         Cavaliers (29-24) – 85

It has to be hard to be LeBron James right now. He watches all these big name players get traded to help team while the Cavs don’t make any moves. Then in the first game after the All-Star break, he busts out a triple double and lose a game  that wasn’t even close. For Houston, Yao Ming and T-Mac both had off nights, but Alston (Skip to my Lou) picked them up with a lot of 3 balls. After watching the Rockets pound the Cavs the last two times they’ve played, I’ve decided that Houston will be a dangerous team come playoff time. They play some outstanding defense and they run a play-off style offense.

Orlando (34-21) – 103                          Detroit (39-14) – 85

This game was real surprising to me to. In a game that the Magic beat the Pistons by 18, you would think that Superman (Howard) would’ve been a big reason why. Not the case in this game as Howard 8 points and had only 8 rebounds. Not only that, but the Magic absolutely dominated this game in the second and third quarter, where they outscored the Pistons 63 – 37. Maybe this was a fluke game or maybe the Pistons are just ready for the playoffs to start.

Golden State (32-21) – 109                        Utah (35-19) – 119

Utah has really flown low on the radar. While teams in the West were making flashy trades, the Jazz went out and got a complimentary piece in Kyle Korver that just lit this team on fire. Utah can play all difference styles of basketball when they need to, and I don’t think that this team will be leaving the playoffs in the first-round.  Bad news for Warriors fans: Not only did they get dropped to 9th in the Western Conference, but Stephen Jackson left the game in the 3rd Quarter with an ankle injury.

Camby is the bomb. I saw him at Umass and knew he was something special. Being from Boston and appreciating the art of shot blocking because I used to see Big Bill Russell do it so effortlessly it is a wonder to me that Camby just couldn’t elevate his overall play and stay healthy enough to be a perenial All Star..but on any given night he is a terror on the defensive end and off the glass. I look for Denver to make a run for it. As for Garnett, those stomach pulls are an aggrivating bitch that can bug you for weeks on end so I hope he shakes the rust off and gets back to double double land cause the C’s need him to glue it all together.. Let’s go Celtic’s ! Hang # 17 from the rafters!
